Crowd Favorite is excited to announce the redesign and launch of the new VentureBeat site, another great WordPress implementation. We worked with some great people to achieve this accomplishment including everyone at VentureBeat.
Shout outs to the following:
- Everyone at VentureBeat
- Whoever left a bunch of Hamm’s beer in the fridge at the office
- Eric Miller, our lead developer who put in many long days and late nights
- Wazee Supper Club for some just in time site launch pizza
- Silas Sewell, our rookie, for picking up the pizza
Some very interesting stats from Twitter. Among other things, apparently 60% of their current traffic is outside of the US (a bit surprising) and 39% of that is from Japan (not surprising).
It’s been quite a while since I last posted. Crowd Favorite has experienced a series of changes since I arrived in Denver. And frankly, I’ve been swamped with all that comes with a new fantastic job and city. More specifically: work, house hunting, meeting people, sight seeing and all-around getting to know the city.
FTR, I’ve been to every major city in the US, sans Detroit (no thanks) and Denver has quickly become my favorite. SoCal laid-backness (GREAT ppl) + downtown Boston walkability + some of the best powder in the world. What could be better?
Since I’ve arrived, Crowd Favorite has moved from Boulder (back) to a great co-working spot in Denver the Hive. After spending a few weeks @ the Hive we were fortunate enough to move into our new, permanent space at 1435 Wazee St. Alex King (our head honcho) posted a brilliant recap.
The most rewarding benefit of having our own office space is the chance to bring in our own fierce and ferocious guard dog …
Among the many new and exciting challenges we’re facing at Crowd Favorite is determining the best process and application set for scheduling new work in consideration of existing work/resources. We’ve settled on a somewhat crafty spreadsheet layout using Google Documents for all on the team to see. At least that we thought we did (sigh). After a full two weeks of failed formulas, double, triple, and even angrier ‘click’ ‘click’ ‘click’ ‘click’ ‘click’ … and more clicking we decided to move our spreadsheet off line to Pages.
This account doesn’t include our series of Google Calendar frustrations. Interestingly in both cases we weren’t attempting anything difficult. Whether is was coordinating user calendar’s and sending/receiving invites or simply selecting and applying a format to multiple cells we’ve had little success. Beyond the most basic single user doc and calendar it appears as though Google’s apps aren’t quite ready for Primetime. I’d love to hear feedback from others to see if our experience is unique. I suspect it’s not.
So, I think I turned a corner this weekend. After reading up more on the latest debate results and the apparent Huckabee surge I’ve decided to make a Ron Paul sign for our front yard. I might go REALLY crazy and put a bumper sticker on my truck.
Now THIS is a killer plugin. Yahoo! Shortcuts contextually detects keywords in your post and allows you to link them to relevant information be it a Flickr photos or product links. I also happen to know many fine people worked extremely hard to deliver this fine solution.
I’m excited, grateful and so, so happy to say I have a new job with an incredible team. I officially came on board with Crowd Favorite this week. Doors like these only open once in a lifetime and I’m honored and invigorated to be part of something great. Thanks to Alex, Eric and Mike for giving me the opportunity.
This hits close to home on many levels. My parents actually live in Colorado, so Kristin and I will get to see them more often and share some Rockies games together. I grew up in the mountains. The smaller one’s back east known as the White Mountains. Finally, its another chance to work with a agile, innovative team of folks with limitless potential … reminds me of a few start-ups I was involved with back in the day but we actually have clients!
Are Americans smart enough to elect him? Hard to expect them to be when too many don’t know the Constitution or understand terms like “limited government” and “non-intervention”. Sigh.
I won’t name names (you know who you are), but I’ve been burying this post deep in my sub-conscious for far too long. Proceeding … the micro-blog concept that is exemplified by Twitter is indeed a worthy channel of communication. That being said, I’m convinced it’s being used by many who are simply ego-dumping. For instance … that’s cool that’s you’re leaving town - typically a big city for another big city - Seattle/Vancouver/Amsterdam/London/etc. or that you’re walking through the chilly streets of San Fran to make it to the next geek/bar-scene. Cool! I get it it! I’m not cool but you are. Anyway … you get it.
So I’m constantly searching for insightful and current client/team management knowledge specific to the web services industry. I believe I do this primarily because I’m always looking to a) better myself (how coy!) or … more likely … b) measure my knowledge/experience against others in my field.
You can find a plethora of books, blogs, workshops, conferences if searching for things sales, design or development related. Try searching for relevant project management insight and you’ll either find it lumped in with development production or tied to the leviathan know as the “Project Management Institute”.
